Stage 1: Cusco to Wayllabamba via KM-82

The journey begins in Cusco, at 3400 meters above sea level, from where you will head to Km-82, the starting point of the Inca Trail. This first day is easy, with a gradual ascent to Wayllabamba at 3000 meters. It’s important to acclimate to the altitude, so the ideal is to move slowly and stay hydrated.

Stage 2: Ascent to Warmiwañusca from Wayllabamba

Ascenso en el Camino Inca
Ascent on the Inca Trail.

This stage of the trek is one of the greatest challenges, with an ascent to the Warmiwañusca Pass at 4200 meters. The trail from Wayllabamba is steep and physically demanding due to the lower oxygen levels. It’s essential to be prepared with clothing for temperature variations and to bring energy food to help maintain your pace during the ascent.

Stage 3: From Paccaymayu to Wiñayhuayna passing through Runkuraqhay and Phuyupatamarka

After crossing the Warmiwañusca pass, the trail descends into the Paccaymayu Valley and then ascends to the Runkuraqhay pass, at 3970 meters. This section is full of ruins and impressive views, perfect for resting and taking photos. You will then continue to Phuyupatamarka and arrive at Wiñayhuayna at 2650 meters. This day is long and offers a wide variety of microclimates and Andean landscapes.

Stage 4: From Wiñayhuayna to Machu Picchu and return to Cusco via Ollantaytambo

The last stage of the Inca Trail begins early, with anticipation to reach Inti Punku "The Sun Gate" from where you will get the first views of Machu Picchu. The walk from Wiñayhuayna is short but steep, so it is recommended to start early to avoid crowds and enjoy the sunrise.

After exploring Machu Picchu, you will descend to Aguas Calientes and return to Cusco via Ollantaytambo, taking with you memories of a unique experience.
